learn something new everyday - january 2011

1.29.2011:  Social interaction is essential for developing the mentally ill; thus, making them leave their rooms to get food is essential, even if they take it back to eat alone.
1.28.2011:  Some days you just feel you don't know anything.  More people than you realize feel the exact same way.
1.27.2011:  Being completely surrounded by people 24/7 can be overwhelming for five straight days.
1.26.2011:  No matter how much you prepare yourself for the things to come, it still will suck when it actually happens.
1.25.2011:  If I were stuck on an island for the rest of my life, I'd be prepared for it.
1.24.2011:  I am definitely a Planner.
1.23.2011:  The most common issue for me in building a relationship is that I tend to find great people who aren't passionate about anything.
1.22.2011:  "The harder you work, the luckier you get." - Bill Rasmussen, ESPN founder
1.21.2011:  Imagination contributes to intellect especially as a developing child.
1.20.2011:  Brady, the guy who sits next to me, is really good friends with a guy I dated briefly when I first moved to Cincinnati.  Brady already thinks I'm crazy, so hopefully he doesn't get any stories out of Kenny.
1.19.2011:  Everyone who grew up in Cincinnati pretty much knows everyone else who grew up in Cincinnati.
1.18.2011:  Sometimes people need a little time off to get their bearings together.
1.17.2011:  People are attracted to curiosity and genuineness.
1.16.2011:  It's impossible to be productive on a three day weekend.
1.15.2011:  When you're married, there is quiet time, and that's not bad.
1.14.2011:  I don't adjust very well to mountain time.
1.13.2011:  I need to leave more room for error.  I've just been lucky so far.
1.12.2011:  It's essential to make it easy for management to read, understand, digest and approve.
1.11.2011:  Out of 100+ ideas and 30+ people voting, the highest scores were 6-8, which tells me: 1) none of the ideas were distinctly compelling, and 2) P&G people vote for their own ideas that they think are the best.
1.10.2011:  A strict schedule is one of the most important things to a team.
1.9.2011:  Sometimes it's better to just go to bed, then wake up and get it done....if you can wake up.
1.8.2011:  P&G is one of the highest rated companies on Glassdoor.com, which only asks actual former or current employees how they feel.
1.7.2011:  Have a deck or one-pager for every major project you're working on.
1.6.2011:  Never review something with your manager without knowing it like the back of your hand.
1.5.2011:  Waiting in the airport isn't so bad, and it's better than having to beg to get on after the check-in time has passed.
1.4.2011:  The month of January is a crazy month.
1.3.2011:  Airbag deployment in a Jetta is based on seat adjustments, seat belt adjustments and impact of collision.
1.2.2011:  People who grow up in big families learn a lot of important qualities when they're younger because they have to share with each other, take care of each other, be a role model for each other, and much, much more.
1.1.2011:  Jim Harbaugh is a real Michigan man, unlike Rich RodriguezJoe Paterno will always be Penn State man.  And Urban Meyer had an unbelievable run at Florida.

i want to thank you for giving me the best day of my life - january 2011

1.29.2011:  How lucky and fortunate I am - It's so easy to forget how good things are when we live in the little bubbles that we do.
1.28.2011:  The guy at UPS - He was so friendly in our 30 second interaction, and just that took all the tension out of me.
1.27.2011:  Cayman and Jackson - Coming home is awesome when you have two friends who are always happy to see you.
1.26.2011:  Christine - I think she's a lot of the reason why I could stay in Cincinnati forever.
1.25.2011:  Being Original - I somehow manage to always have an answer that no one has ever given before.
1.24.2011:  Flying in the night before - Everyone who flew in this morning on the 6 am flight had delays.
1.23.2011:  Volunteering - I'm really excited to get back into serving breakfast at the Drop Inn Center and hopefully starting spending Sundays at the Lindner Center of Hope as well!  It makes life a little more meaningful.
1.22.2011:  Being part of organizations that people have an irrational devotion to:  I met a Berkeley MBA student today, and his fiance went to Michigan.  He was making fun of her and me for our love for Michigan football.  I've realized that it's important to me to be a part of something great whether it's a school, a job, a non-profit, an activity, or even a group of brand loyalists.  Here are just a few of mine: Michigan, P&G, Kellogg, Tide, Charmin, marathons, Cervelo, VW, J. Crew.
1.21.2011:  Having an opinion - I never have a problem voicing my opinion at work.  I'm not sure where it came from, but I realize how many people are afraid to do so.
1.20.2011:  Eating lunch out - It feels great every time we go out to lunch because it's like a mini-vacation getaway.  When we eat in the cafeteria, I always am rushing to get back to my desk.
1.19.2011:  Honesty - Whenever I recruit, I'm always honest with the entire picture.  I think it's really important to paint a realistic picture, not just all the incredible stuff.
1.18.2011:  P&G Benefits - I think I just might have some of the best benefits in the country.  I've never really realized how good they are until now.
1.17.2011:  Brad at Courtesy Automotive Auto Body - He is one of the nicest guys and so unbelievably helpful.  And on top of all that, he does some excellent work for a decent price!
1.16.2011:  Stacey - The handful of friends that I still talk to from college are some of my favorites.  Stacey is for sure one of them, and so good to see her at brunch!
1.15.2011:  Meghan - She's always been my big sister and has such a good perspective on things.  So fun to catch up!
1.14.2011:  Jacques - He gave me real feedback after our meeting with Scott.  He pushes me to be better every day.
1.13.2011:  The God of Luck - Helping me get to Chicago safely and without any speeding tickets.
1.12.2011:  Companies that want to partner with P&G - We have amazing partnership with so many top companies.  At our trainings, we have CMOs and leaders from all over the country.  Today, Microsoft flew in to share with us some awesome things that can be done with Kinect.  I'm almost tempted to buy one.
1.11.2011:  Growing up driving in snow - People in Cincinnati cannot drive in the snow!  Even with just a little that doesn't even stick on the ground.  Growing up in Cleveland and Michigan made me learn to feel when my tires are slipping, when I need to slow down, how to get out when I'm stuck in a bank of snow, and much more!
1.10.2011:  CLigz - She is an outstanding person as seen today at the All Employee Update, but the best part is she's my friend.
1.9.2011:  Chase Ultimate Rewards - I save them for a rainy day, and I've apparently built up $600 worth.
1.8.2011:  Graduating from school - I'm really done!  This was the first weekend where I actually didn't have school and everyone else did.  I was a normal 26 year old.
1.7.2011:  Alexa - She writes the best thank you notes.
1.6.2011:  Jacques - He totally has my back without a doubt.  It's really sad that someone as an AD is so insecure that she sends nasty-grams to an ABM's manager.  I put on my smile and take comfort in knowing that she creates her own career and knowing she feels threatened because of what I've accomplished in my time.
1.5.2011:  Two seats to myself on flights - To and from Chicago, I had two seats just for me!
1.4.2011:  Loving my job - The morning was really tough, but by the end of the day, I was back into the groove because I love working on Charmin!
1.3.2011:  P&G Paid Holidays - I don't think there's another company out there with more paid holidays.  We had the day off when no one else did!
1.2.2011:  Tim - We always have the best conversations when we catch up.  He's one of my two best friends from high school, and I'm so glad he's still in my life.
1.1.2011:  Friends - I think I've figured out that friends become the family you need to fill in when your family isn't close by.

the best part of waking up - january 2011

1.29.2011:  Helping out at Tender Mercies and the slightly uncomfortable feeling of being different from the residents who are homeless and mentally ill.  This is exactly what I was hoping for and Alliea is incredible for leading the efforts.
1.28.2011:  Eating Sichuan Bistro with Kreena and Bobby.
1.27.2011:  Listening to Scott talk about how incredible MMMSU is.
1.26.2011:  Hearing Mary Margaret's son pick up the phone.  Even when you're having a rough day, coming home to your family puts it all back in perspective.
1.25.2011:  Playing ridiculous games with our team - yes, I did have Gwyneth Paltrow written on a piece of paper on my forehead at 1 am.
1.24.2011:  Seeing life in Charlotte.  It's incredible how much you learn by being in someone's home.
1.23.2011:  Talking with Kreena after she got her Bachelorette invite.  She absolutely loved it.  I did good.
1.22.2011:  Giggling with Prash about anything and everything.  He might possibly be one of the most incredible people I've ever met.
1.21.2011:  Briefing Interbrand on two new projects.  I miss that about working on SIMPL Express.
1.20.2011:  Making good with Richard.  That's what happens when you both want something to work.
1.19.2011:  Watching Christine's reaction when Canada showed up 15 minutes to our meeting and only had 5 minutes of material to talk.
1.18.2011:  Asking Chris about why he's been avoiding me!  And posting the lyrics from Usher's song More.  "I'm a beast, an animal, that monster in the mirror, the headliner, finisher, i'm the closer, the winner.  that's when under pressure with seconds left i show up."
1.17.2011:  Finalizing Kreena's bachelorette invites and the plans for the weekend.  I think I'm hilarious sometimes.
1.16.2011:  Getting a half order of corned beef hash and a half order of the granola french toast at Egg Shell in Denver.  It's pretty awesome when you get everything you want.
1.15.2011:  Seeing Meg and Patrick together as a married couple.
1.14.2011:  Catching up with Meg and hearing her stories about her life and Steve.
1.13.2011:  Talking to Kellogg students who came to our Mock Interview Workshop.  Had a great turnout, and they loved it!
1.12.2011:  Being part of the best Marketing team in the company!  I love Charmin, and P&G, and yes, I do drink a lot of kool-aid.
1.11.2011:  Turning in my Issue Sheets, and reviewing the first one with Jacques, which he had very few changes!
1.10.2011:  Watching Ligz get embarrassed when Mautz talked about how she always carries a cozy in her purse!
1.9.2011:  Eating creme brulee french toast with bananas at Mokka with Susan!
1.8.2011:  Getting my Digital Strategy done, finally.  After 3 months, I think I'm finally understanding my projects...a little.
1.7.2011:  Making up stories with Caden about him, Gavin and Cat and the Hat.
1.6.2011:  Getting an awesome raise!
1.5.2011:  Reading Alexa's text about how she can't live without me because I don't think I could live without her.
1.4.2011:  Watching Mallet throw against Ohio State!  Wish he wouldn't have left Michigan, but I would've too if I would have had to play for Rodriguez.
1.3.2011:  Chatting with Diann at VW about our love for Michigan.  If I had a second home, it would definitely be in Michigan.
1.2.2011:  Running around Crockett Park on a beautiful, sunshiny, 35 degree, winter afternoon in Nashville.
1.1.2011:  Seeing how truly happy Alexa and Tom are in Nashville.  Talking with Jordan, she's an incredible person and deserves all the happiness in the world.
