i want to thank you for giving me the best day of my life - january 2010

1.31.10:  Sunshine on my one day off a week - I love the sunshine, and I definitely don't get enough of it since I'm at work all day Monday through Friday, then also spend my Saturdays sitting in a classroom and on the van.  The chances of sunshine on a Sunday in Cincinnati aren't very high, so it's incredible when the sun shines like it did today.
1.30.10:  Leslie - I wish I could climb with her tomorrow.
1.29.10:  Alexa - She always makes me laugh.  Alexa has grown so much in the past few years, and I'm really proud of her for handling the Kelley situation so well and finding the humor in a kind of scary (Single White Female scary) situation.
1.28.10:  Michael - Of the past five years that I've known Mike, I think he's only opened up to me once before tonight.  I'm really glad we talked tonight.  I learned more about him than I probably have ever known.
1.27.10:  Alexa - I'm so glad that she's my best friend and that she's not like most other girls.  She's such a good person, and she works so hard at constantly becoming better.
1.26.10:  Kreena - She always does a great job of managing our calls.
1.25.10:  Michael - We've always had a great time together over the last years as friends of our best friends, Tom and Alexa.
1.24.10:  Meghan - I'm really excited to read in her wedding!!!
1.23.10:  The Kellogg Marketing Conference - What an awesome conference.  I learned so much today, and met some incredible people as well as catching up with some old friends.
1.22.10:  Martin - I absolutely would not have been able to drive to Chicago today.  Thankfully, I rode up with Martin.
1.21.10:  Vicky - She made me feel okay today.
1.20.10:  Catching a break - The overnight shipping was 15 minutes late, so I was able to ship to Target just in time.
1.19.10:  Mister Griffith - He's going to make the transition from Laura seamless, hopefully, not at the expense of himself though.
1.18.10:  Passionate people - The people who work at Wheelie Fun are so passionate about what they do.  It's incredible to work during the day on something that they love so much.
1.17.10:  Three day weekends - So I've worked all day today, but it doesn't feel so bad because I have tomorrow off to do my homework, more work work and run errands.
1.16.10:  Good beer - I'm glad I actually like good beer.  Smithwick's is exactly what I needed tonight.
1.15.10:  Kevin's love for food and cooking - I definitely reap the benefits.
1.14.10:  Sleep - I decided to not stay up all night, and I slept for a few hours instead.
1.13.10:  Mentoring - I've had wonderful mentors throughout my career, and I hope I am being a just as wonderful mentor for my mentees.
1.12.10:  Having a good life - I am very lucky to be employed with a great job and living the way I do, particularly with all of my travel.
1.11.10:  Jerry - He is my hero.
1.10.10:  Flirting - A cute boy at the gym and another very cute boy at the wine shop reminded me that there's still hope for me even though I am undatable at the moment.
1.9.10:  Commitment - I'm pretty sure the only reason I'm going to finish school at this point is that I'm committed.
1.8.10:  Mom & Dad - They consistently remind me of the need for balance in life and all the wonderful experiences I've had.
1.7.10:  Karl - What an incredible and inspiring person.  I hope that Karl finds all that he is looking for in this world.
1.6.10:  Mister Griffith - He is going to make a fabulous Brand Manager.  I think the Business will do just as well under his lead when Laura goes on maternity leave.
1.5.10:  The Oakley Post Office - They let me slip in a minute after closing, and I was able to pack Emily's birthday present outside for an extra 15 minutes.
1.4.10:  CLigz - Christine is the one person who got me through the day.
1.3.10:  Going to bed early last night - Sometimes the FOMO makes us make poor decisions.  I definitely made the right one.  I would have never survived today otherwise.
1.2.10:  Breaks - Today was a break from life.  I woke up at 9:30, ate Dim Sum, wandered around SoHo and Nolita, relaxed with my brother, and didn't once think about work or school or anything but what I was doing at the time.
1.1.10:  Jon - I love my big brudder.  He's an incredibly interesting person with an incredible and interesting life with incredible and interesting friends.  Today, I joined him and his friends for the Polar Bear Swim and New Yangs Day, a second serving of Yangsgiving.

learn something new everyday - january 2010

1.31.10:  I accomplish a lot more if I can get myself to d a little schoolwork in the mornings on Sundays, then work out, and then run errands.
1.30.10:  Sometimes you need small tangible wins before creating a strategy that people cannot envision.
1.29.10:  Big Lots! not only has the remnant price discounts, then they discount across the store another 20-30 percent.
1.28.10:  Sometimes persistence is the only way you'll get what you want.  Sometimes people just need to know that you're committed to open up.
1.27.10:  Creating organic growth is extremely difficult in a 173 year old company with $80 billion in annual sales.
1.26.10:  I eat when I PMS.  Yes, it took me until the age of 25 to figure this out.
1.25.10:  By getting less than 5 hours of sleep on a regular basis, people are 450% more likely to heart disease than those who get 7 or more hours of sleep each night.  Too little sleep creates a buildup of calcium in the arteries of the heart.
1.24.10:  A 529 is not an Education IRA, and you cannot contribute to both in the same year.  529's only allow you to invest in mutual funds, but withdrawals are completely tax free.
1.23.10:  P&G can't offer employment for life, but they offer employability for life.
1.22.10:  Saying thank you in small ways is one of the best and easiest things I can do.
1.21.10:  It took me 18 months to get a raise even though I got promoted.  My fellow peer is here for 6 months, and he got a raise, and he already makes quite a bit more than me because he's on the MBA curve.  I just have to remind myself the hard work pays off someday, right?  Please tell me the countless sleepless nights are worth it.
1.20.10:  I'm a stress eater.
1.19.10:  Google has grown to have a larger market cap in its 12-year existence than P&G has developed in 173 years.  We're the 15th largest company in the world, and Google has us beat in shareholder value.
1.18.10:  I can grocery shop under $50 if I'm really conscious.
1.17.10:  When I meet the boy who is the nicest person I've ever met, I think I'll marry him.
1.16.10:  When making a negotiation, it's better to negotiate the entire package than on individual items.
1.15.10:  Customer calls are the absolute best way to see how much you actually know.
1.14.10:  The average annual salary in Haiti is $400, and 80% of the Haitian populations lives in poverty.
1.13.10:  We manage consumer reviews just as much as the average company.  We're surprisingly lenient, and only remove a comment if someone uses offensive language or offers a recommendation that could be harmful to other consumers.
1.12.10:  Pipes burst from the excess pressure from expansion during freezing.  Never completely turn off the heat when it is below 20 degrees.
1.11.10:  Many bank executives still got major bonuses this year, but would not have received anything without our government bailouts.  If we could eliminate selfishness in this world, what would life be like?  Would we all be equally starving and unmotivated?  Or would we simply all be happy?
1.10.10:  Flights to Lima, Peru are $350 from CVG.
1.9.10:  The Wright Brothers figured out how to fly by laying on the beach watching birds fly overhead.
1.8.10:  When your main competitor has enough equity in their brand to not use their logo in their next initiative, you know you're in trouble.
1.7.10:  Texas has an outstanding football program.
1.6.10:  Agencies need extremely detailed direction.
1.5.10:  Weather patterns tend to move from West to East in the U.S. because the sun heats the highest at the equator and winds travel from South to North to provide cooling, but as the earth spins, the winds move from the West to East instead.
1.4.10:  Coming back to work after the holidays gets harder every year, especially if you never really take a break.
1.3.10:  The shape of a decanter does not affect is performance.
1.2.10:  My brother owns a $2,000 per of shoes.
1.1.10:  Creatives tend to make for much more interesting conversations than corporate people, except for the crazy ones - crazy in a good way.

1.28.10:  Realizing there's been a lot of "best parts" of my day lately.  Inspiring potential students to be excited about Kellogg.  Eating Korean with Kreena.   Talking with Mike and getting to really know him more.
1.27.10:  Having a great conversation with Brase.  Also indulging in Southern deliciousness with Christine, who was drunk without alcohol.  And laughing with Alexa about the ridiculousness of it all.
1.26.10:  Bringing Sofia her laptop cord and seeing how thankful she was.  She gave me three hugs!
1.25.10:  Riding my shiny new road bike.
1.24.10:  Waking up early and crawling into bed with Tom and Alexa.  I was laughing so hard and trying to hide under the covers when they called Mike.   It's ridiculous (in a good way) the stuff that Tom says to embarrass me all the time.
1.23.10:  Making the day for the old man who sat next to me on the L.  He looked like he was ready to fall apart, or worse, and by the end of our conversation he couldn't stop smiling and saying, "God bless you."
1.22.10:  Watching Conan's last show.
1.21.10:  Getting kudos from Brad on my response to OfficeMax.
1.20.10:  Realizing how much I'm going to miss Laura.  I am truly a marketer because of her.
1.19.10:  Bowling in the bullpen for the Fine Arts Fund.  Seeing Karl put on the women's Puffs fleece that was tight as can be made the bowling that much more fun.
1.18.10:  Buying my first road bike!
1.17.10:  Catching up with Christopher.  It had been way too long.
1.16.10:  Revealing to Kreena that I thought about sticking my finger in her nose, and then she revealed she had been thinking about flicking my face at the same time!
1.15.10:  Listening to Laura list off the things I'm not allowed to do while she's gone on maternity leave, i.e. no building castles that are fire hazards, no vandalizing cars, no cooking bacon in the office, no standing in shopping carts and breaking them, overall, no getting in trouble with safety.
1.14.10:  Trying to hide in a huddle to be productive, but everyone managed to find me anyways to ask for whatever they need.
1.13.10:  Working at Christine's desk and bothering Patrick.
1.12.10:  Talking to Tue about starting a scholarship fund.
1.11.10:  Reading the note that Brad sent Laura from my BlackBerry that said, "Laura, I am having trouble working with Brad.  He is just too handsome and brilliant.  We will discuss when you get back in."

1.5.10:  Causing after-hour shenanigans and putting Brooke in the Puffs shopping cart.
1.4.10:  Being surprised by my Minestrone soup, which is probably the best I ever have tasted.  Too bad I don't have a recipe.  Hope I can recreate it as tastily next time.
1.3.10:  Looking forward to being home and start a routine.  I did begin my calorie counting endeavor today as well.
1.2.10:  Wandering around the city starting with delicious dim sum.
1.1.10:  Swimming in the Atlantic with my brother, his friends and hundreds of other brilliant idiots.
