the best part of waking up - december 2009

12.31.09:  Seeing the snow falling in New York.  I love the City over the holidays.
12.30.09:  Cleaning before the New Year.
12.29.09:  Giggling in the massage chair while trying to work sitting next to Mister Griffith.
12.28.09:  Agreeing with my roommate that we'll be friends for life.
12.27.09:  Coming home.  I've lived here for almost four years, and it really has become home.
12.26.09:  Seeing the illuminated forests of Pandora.  Imagine if there are worlds that exist with such astounding beauty as in Avatar.
12.25.09:  Reading my book of Love.  "Spread love everywhere you go.  Never let anyone come to you without coming away better and happier."
12.24.09:  Eating the tastiest gumbo, which we have every Christmas Eve and will continue the tradition forever.
12.23.09:  Going to bed early for the first time in months.
12.22.09:  Watching Mr. Griffith almost cry laughing while rehashing quotes from Christmas Vacation with Brase.
12.21.09:  People watching with my roommate and sitting on the same side of the bench at Zip's.
12.20.09:  Seeing the sun rise while dancing outside at Pacha.
12.19.09:  Talking to Brian about memories as the sun set on the bus ride back from the estancia.
12.18.09:  Listening to Edmund talk about how he had an incredible experience on our Patagonia trip.
12.17.09:  Shopping with Donnell in Palermo.
12.16.09:  Crashing into the waves while rafting down the Mendoza River.
12.15.09:  Enjoying the moment.
12.14.09:  Making friends and drinking mate with local Argentinians.
12.13.09:  Feeling the excitement of Boca Juniors score their second futbol goal and sitting with fans who love the sport.  Watching Banfield get crowned the national champions for the first time in 113 years.
12.12.09:  Being done with Finance forever.
12.11.09:  Tackling the big ideas with Mister Griffith and Mister Luigi.
12.10.09:  Hearing Higgs say that the best part about our jobs as marketers is that we make dreams come true.  Here's to a lifetime of making dreams come true.
12.9.09:  Having the hope that I won't feel terrible tomorrow.
12.8.09:  Looking at the incredible work Interbrand presented today.  They continue to impress me more and more.
12.7.09:  Falling asleep on my couch with my Christmas lights.
12.6.09:  Eating the most delicious egg nog ice cream from the Sweet Tooth Candy Store.  The store also has the best caramels.  I haven't tried their fudge or other chocolates, but I would imagine they're probably up there too.
12.5.09:  Feeling the excitement for John and Bobby finishing school.  I'm kind of surprised how excited and proud and impressed I am with them both.  I'm going to miss seeing them every Saturday...well Bobby every Saturday, John was more like 6 out of the 10 Saturdays each quarter.  It's such an unbelievable accomplishment that I can't even envision what it'd feel like even though it's only a year away.
12.4.09:  Seeing Mister Griffith's facial expressions and listening to his ridiculous sarcasm.  He's been in quite the mood since Thanksgiving.
12.3.09:  Listening to Christine give her work family superlatives at her Gabye Lunch.
12.2.09:  Roaming around Target for onesies and storechecks with my Puffs siblings - Mister Griffith and Ligz.  Laura telling us the story of how the senior buyer at Target gave her unsolicited positive feedback about Delta for the first time in 3.5 years.
12.1.09:  Learning that I have a ton more to learn about Marketing.

learn something new everyday - december 2009

12.31.09:  Calories are very easily consumed.  I consumed 3,000 excess calories today.
12.30.09:  Kleenex is likely trading up their loyals because they really have no where else to go.
12.29.09:  I can't have three drinks and stay up until 3 am and make it through the next work day anymore.
12.28.09:  FiveFingers are great for runs under 10 miles.
12.27.09:  Early morning flights are my favorite time to fly because you have a whole day ahead of you when you arrive.
12.26.09:  The movie theater industry makes $10 billion per year in the U.S.  Titanic alone raked in $1.8 billion in ticket sales.
12.25.09:  "The biggest disease today is not leprosy or tuberculosis, but rather the feeling of being unwanted, uncared for, and deserted by everybody.  The greatest evil is the lack of love and charity, the terrible indifference toward one's neighbor..."
12.24.09:  You can't play Trivial Pursuit with more than 8 people.
12.23.09:  There's a diesel gas station right next to WHBC.
12.22.09:  Sheets can shrink significantly during the converting process.
12.21.09:  Argentinian airports are extremely inefficient.
12.20.09:  I have to deal with the memories, and I need to define my relationship before it defines itself for me.
12.19.09:  I think I will always love the countryside more than the city.
12.18.09:  Dancing the tango with extraordinary talent, but no passion, is nothing close to extraordinary.
12.17.09:  Sweet wines often have a heavier alcohol taste because the fermentation process leaves a high level of residual sugars present.
12.16.09:  Choices are simple.  You either want it or you don't.  If you're not sure, it simply means you don't.
12.15.09:  The things that I want in someone are often contradictory in a persona, but the most contradictory one seems to be that the guy who comes the closest to being something worth trying to pursue is not interested in being pursued because he is too afraid of what might happen.  He's too afraid of risk, too afraid of failing himself.
12.14.09:  To indulge in a culture, you need to open yourself up first.
12.13.09:  The love for futbol links almost the entire world together, except for the U.S.
12.12.09:  In business class, you need a dc adapter to plug in your computer.
12.11.09:  TV flighting works more successfully on brands that invest in sustaining levels year round.
12.10.09:  According to a book called Mindset, there are only two types of people - each defined by their type of mindset:  growth or fixed.
12.9.09:  I have to do a better job of taking care of my health.  The pains whenever I move and the utter exhaustion are not worth anything.  Next year my number one priority needs to be my health.
12.8.09:  Shrink wrapping is incredibly difficult to do successfully.
12.7.09:  Costco buyers are extremely knowledgeable in their categories, probably more so than any other retailer.
12.6.09:  P&G teaches you more than almost any other company.  I helped prepare Daphne for an interview today, and I apparently knew more about retailers than much more senior managers at Pepsi and Nestle.
12.5.09:  If you have a positive NPV project, it's not a bad investment.  There may be better investments, but this one is not a bad one.  So don't invest in risk for risk's sake.
12.4.09:  The gray stains around the edge of the carpet are due to carbon monoxide settling over years.
12.3.09:  The people who were at lunch today are truly the core of the team.  When one person like Ligz leaves, it makes an incredible difference on the team.  Other people can leave, and it won't feel any different.
12.2.09:  Long-sleeve onesies are made with mitten cuffs so that infants don't scratch themselves.
12.1.09:  Communications Planning is most successful when the Brand, CMK and the Media Planning Agency all work together from the beginning development of the segmentation and receptivity through the CCS, CPCs and Path to Purchase.

i want to thank you for giving me the best day of my life - december 2009

12.31.09:  Seeing Times Square on the afternoon of New Year's Eve - Now I have absolutely no interest in spending New Year's Eve standing outside in the cold for at least six hours to see a ball drop with a million people.
12.30.09:  Vacation days - I burned my last one of the year.
12.29.09:  Organization - My desk at work is clean, and my e-mail box is finally somewhat manageable.  I need to keep this up throughout the new year.
12.28.09:  Holiday hours - It's wonderful to be able to sleep in a bit during the holidays.
12.27.09:  Sales - The after Christmas sales at the outlet mall were incredible.  I bought two pairs of J. Crew jeans, two button down Polo collared shirts, four BCBG dresses, a Marc Jacobs dress, and a Coach wallet for $400.  I would've spent $400 easily on just two of the BCBG dresses at full price.
12.26.09:  Aspiration - I think people often confuse aspiration with ambition, where ambition seeks reward and aspiration is simply seeking a goal itself.  I don't know what happened to me along the way, or why I feel this way, but I feel a connection to others that makes me want to do more than I can.  I've always believed that some people go into the business world to make money - probably most do - but I believe that some also go into business to change the world - to touch lives and improve life.
12.25.09:  Love - "Love begins at home, and it is not how much we do, but how much love we put in what we do."
12.24.09:  A ridiculous family - We are the silliest, goofiest, most ridiculous family I know.  I love it.
12.23.09:  Manageable traffic and security lines - I left work at 4:15 for a 5:30 flight, and I almost surely would have missed my flight if traffic would have been heavier and the airport more crowded.
12.22.09:  Kreena - The best part of Kellogg has been meeting Kreena.
12.21.09:  Recognition for hard work - In my triad today, I was told that I have the intangibles that set me apart from the rest and that I have what it takes to do extremely well in brand management.  I've worked extremely hard this past year, and it feels good to know it's being noticed.
12.20.09:  Brian - It's always fun meeting people who you know will leave an impression on you for life.
12.19.09:  The unexpected - Walking through the Estancia Bella Vista was probably my favorite part of the trip, which  looking at the olive, lemon, pear trees, watching the horses and cows, sitting the hundred year old bushes that looked like trees.  That's was one of the last places that I would've thought would be such a highlight.
12.18.09:  Enjoying an active lifestyle - I think I was the only one who truly enjoyed kayaking down El Tigre in the sun.
12.17.09:  Reasonable unions in Argentina - The strike in the Buenos Aires airport only lasted five hours, so we were able to continue on our trip that same day.
12.16.09:  The taste of a home cooked meal - I love that I get tired of eating out, especially eating out expensively day after day, meal after meal.
12.15.09:  Tolerance - Tolerance for pain, tolerance for other people, tolerance for things outside of my control.
12.14.09:  Friendliness - I met three local Argentinians today who shared their stories and mate, and sent me off with a crystal as a gift.  Extremely kind people that I was lucky enough to get to know briefly.
12.13.09:  Matias - For teaching me about futbol, the Argentinian teams and players, and mostly for showing me his passion for the sport.
12.12.09:  Donnell - I wouldn't have gone to Argentina without his help.  He is one of the most generous people I know, and so much fun too!
12.11.09:  Imagination - Imagination makes life so much more interesting.
12.10.09:  Family Care - I couldn't have started in a better organization.  I know I did my research, but really, I got so lucky.  It's definitely one of the absolute best in P&G.
12.9.09:  Cayman and Jackson - They have been keeping me company in my bed all day.  I can always count on them to make me feel a little better.
12.8.09:  Margie - My mom is the smartest person I know.
12.7.09:  Laura - For working so hard (including approval through Mary Lynn) to help recognize me for the work I've done.
12.6.09:  Kevin - I had a tough day yesterday, and at the end of the day, I felt like falling apart - more so than usual on my 19-hour Saturdays.  I didn't say anything, but apparently my facial expressions said enough.  So even though Kevin went to Annie's (he always brings Toby with him to stay the night), he left him home with me to make me feel better.  I am truly blessed for meeting him.
12.5.09:  Sunrises and sunsets on Saturdays - While the van is not one of my most favorite places, I love watching the sun rise and sun set every Saturday.  I have 88 more van rides to go - 44 more sunrises and 44 more sunsets.
12.4.09:  Breaks - Every once in awhile I get a lucky break just by happenstance.
12.3.09:  James - My mentor, who has been such an inspiration through my first year in Marketing.  He always has the right answer, and he truly loves what he does.
12.2.09:  Christine - I miss working with her already.  I've learned so much from her, and she always makes my day better.
12.1.09:  Time - Training ended 12 minutes early today, which was just enough time for me to make it to the Deputy Registrar one minute before it closed.  Time is one of the most precious things in life, and it keeps disappearing on me.

11.28.09:  Decorating my little Christmas tree with my ornaments from all over the world.
11.27.09:  Watching my daddy tear up when my mom was talking about his mom and all the good things about her that he got from her.
11.26.09:  Sitting in the kitchen with my famibly and chatting for the six hours prior to dinner.  And waking up to the first snowfall!

11.19.09:  Celebrating the success of Delta with my team.
11.18.09:  Listening to Laura tell the story about how someone told her she needs to get control of her Brand after I pulled the Princess Puffs prank on the Bounty team.
11.17.09:  Making a paper fortune teller with Christine and giggling with Griffith.
11.16.09:  Making the finance manager at VW smile and laugh.  She asked me why everyone couldn't be as nice and friendly as me.
11.15.09:  Watching Dane Cook giggle at his own joke so much that he could barely talk...he truly loves his job.  Susan asked if I am going to be a lifer too...I said yes. =)
11.14.09:  Imagining Bobby riding into his wedding on a toy horse on a stick and decked out in full Indian dress.
11.13.09:  Seeing Laura's reaction to seeing the flowers I gave Lee Ann for her outstanding work on Target Halloween.
11.12.09:  Reading the letter from one of our consumers who loves Puffs and her husband loves Puffs even more, and every day he has an awesome morning and evening blow.  We are clearly touching and improving lives with Puffs.
11.11.09:  Feeling relief when I found out that what I've always believed to be true is not true at all.
11.10.09:  Listening to Brase tell the story of how he threw our singing Puffs box contraption because he was so pissed when the singing princess went off as he picked up the phone and couldn't hear the person on the other end of the line.
11.9.09:  Trying to attach the Happy Birthday singing noisemaker to Brad's chair with Mr. Griffith and Luigi.

11.29.09:  Randall - My very first manager when I started full time.  He is one of the most passionate people I've ever met.
11.28.09:  Jon - My big brother, who cares so much about me.  We made it through a lot together.
11.27.09:  Silliness - Life would not be the same without silliness.  My famibly thrives on silliness.  Tonight I watched my dad hide a gallon of ice cream in Kate's purse and pretend like he didn't know how it got there.
11.26.09:  Family dinners - We sat down every night as a family for dinner while we were growing up, and it was always delicious.
11.25.09:  Margie and Peter - They raised six amazing children and truly created the best family and home in the world.  I am who I am because of Margie and Peter.
11.24.09:  Being thankful - I am so thankful for everyone and everything in my life, and I'm so glad that I am.  I know many who are not particularly thankful, and I feel that my life would not be as fulfilling if I were not as thankful as I am.
11.23.09:  Alexa - She can always bring a smile to my face with her ridiculousness.
11.22.09:  The writers of Grey's Anatomy - This show makes me laugh and cry with my entire body, it brings out more emotion than I can often let out on my own.  I've never watched a show or movie that I identify with like I do with the story of Grey's.

11.17.09:  Alexa - My best friend, who I miss incredibly, and need to see soon!  Talking to her today reminds me of how lucky I am.
11.16.09:  People who go above and beyond - Linda at the bank in Family Care stayed two hours late to close my loan so I could pick up my new car today.
11.15.09:  Good friends - Leslie, Ethan, Susan, and Amanda came out tonight to see Dane Cook even though I feel like a terrible friend since I haven't seen them in over a month.  What an incredibly fun night full of peeing in our pants laughing...so what if the person sitting next to you at a show actually peed in their pants, then sat in your lap?
11.14.09:  Kreena - For making the van bearable.  Tonight was like having a girls' sleepover.
11.13.09:  Laura - As my manager, she always has supported me.  She's the best manager I could have ever asked for in my first Marketing assignment.

11.11.09:  Navin - People come in and out of our lives for a reason.  His was to help me understand that I don't have to be scared anymore.
11.10.09:  Kevin - The best friend I could have ever asked for in a roommate.  I think we get along so well because he's slightly crazy, and well, you all know I am too.
11.9.09:  Frugality - Okay, I'm not a particularly frugal person, but I'm fairly conscious about my spending habits.  I'm thankful that although I want an iPhone, I'm rational enough to refrain from spending an extra ~$400 per year in a plan plus $200 for the phone itself.  I admire people who are frugal, and hope that I continue to become more so.
11.8.09:  Kevin - Today he taught me patience, and simplicity, and to drive manual.  And I'm most thankful for him because he gave me a mini-vacation today.
11.7.09:  Kellogg - With many sleepless nights, and day after day of exhaustion, it's so easy to forget how lucky I am to be going to school here.  But when I'm sitting in class, it's amazingly easy to remember that this is definitely the best thing I could be doing with my life right now.
11.6.09:  P&G - What an incredible place to be part of.  Jessica will be coming back this June, and it was fun talking to her about why I don't think I ever want to leave.
11.5.09:  Kevin - He has such a genuinely good Hart.  I don't think I really believed people like him existed in real life.
11.4.09:  The extraordinary people I work with everyday - Christine (Financial Analyst), Jerry (Packaging Manager), Brad (Sales Manager), Matt (Assistant Brand Manager), Laura (Brand Manager), Jill (Design Agency), Sarah (Advertising Agency).
